2Asphalt is layers, not a pour

Asphalt concrete is mineral aggregate bound with bitumen, laid and compacted in layers rather than poured as one slab — that layered structure is exactly why asphalt is patchable and resurfaceable in a way a single concrete slab isn't.

3What's actually under the surface matters more than the surface

Any hard pavement, gravel included, is built on a subbase layer specifically to spread the load and control drainage under the wearing surface — a driveway that fails early has usually failed underground, not on top.

4Permeable options exist for driveways too

Pervious concrete and permeable paving let water pass through the surface into a stone reservoir below instead of running off, the same stormwater logic increasingly used for patios, now available in driveway-rated products.
