Published · Updated
A nautilus shell rests among the shore stones where a thin film of seawater surrounds its base. Rusty brown bands spread across the cream spiral, and fine growth ridges follow its curve. The broad open rim has small worn edges that interrupt the otherwise smooth outline.
Low sunlight gives the shell a pearly sheen and catches small highlights on the dark rounded stones. A broken reflection appears in the shallow water below it, with sand grains held in the gaps nearby. Farther out, softly blurred waves and a distant tree-lined shore place the empty shell within a quiet coastal morning scene.
