A skeeball roll lights the seaside arcade
Published · Updated
A skeeball rolls away along the polished orange lane as a teenage player holds his hand low in follow-through. His father leans beside him, watching the same ball with a broad smile. Their shoulders draw close without interrupting the movement. A row of pale target cups rises at the end of the lane, enclosed by metal mesh.
The seaside arcade glows with strings of small amber bulbs. Turquoise rails and coral trim divide the neighboring lanes, giving the long room a cheerful rhythm. Beyond the rainy window, blue evening water meets a distant pier and a small coastal light. Water droplets soften that outside view while the game remains warm and clear.
The father’s burgundy corduroy overshirt has a different texture from the teenager’s navy-and-cream striped rugby shirt. Pale trousers brighten the younger figure against the darker floor. Brown shoes and white trainers sit firmly beside the lane. Reflections on varnished wood carry the overhead light toward the foreground, where spare balls wait for the next turn.
