A stick race starts beneath the fern bridge
Published · Updated
A stick race begins above the woodland stream as a father and daughter lean toward the rail of a fern bridge. The girl turns a delighted face toward her father while a twig falls toward the water below. He smiles back with his own stick ready, sharing the small anticipation of seeing which one will travel farther. Their attention moves easily between each other and the stream.
The arched timber bridge crosses a narrow channel bordered by mossy stones. Its curved railing and solid boards remain clearly visible beneath the pair, giving their game a grounded setting. Enormous green leaves crowd the banks, and tree ferns lift a lighter canopy above them. The rich planting makes this short crossing feel like a much larger woodland adventure.
The daughter’s pink dress, dark tights and yellow boots add cheerful color against the surrounding greens. Her father’s blue plaid shirt echoes the cooler shadows in the water. Soft daylight keeps their faces clear while preserving the fine textures of leaves, bark and wet stone. The falling twig is a small detail within the expansive garden, but their shared laughter makes it the center of the moment.
