A telephone whisper passes along a row of friends on sunny garden steps. The girl in the floral jacket leans close and cups her hands beside the middle girl's ear. The listener tries to contain a smile, while the third friend waits on the lower step with one hand near her own ear. Their glances make the direction of the game easy to follow.

Each outfit brings a different texture to the stone setting. A pale quilted jacket sits beside a yellow knitted sweater, dark trousers and a navy coat over gingham. Thick tights and sturdy shoes suit the outdoor pause. The girls sit at slightly different heights, giving the group a loose and natural arrangement.

Magenta bougainvillea climbs beside the black iron railing. Terracotta pots and succulent leaves soften the edges of the steps, while houses and a distant stretch of water appear beyond the slope. Sunlight picks out hair, fabric and pale stone. The scene turns a neighborhood stair into a temporary gathering place, with the shared secret providing its quiet sense of movement.
