A blue ring flies beneath the parasols
Published · Updated
A blue ring hangs in the air between an outstretched hand and three yellow pegs. An adult woman in an emerald dress has just released it, with one foot forward and her other hand resting back for balance. A man beside her follows its flight, while another woman waits with two coral rings held near her waist. The ring toss gives all three a common focus.
Above them, a vast parasol canopy forms bands of coral, yellow, turquoise and deep blue. Open umbrellas hang from cables between slender poles, their curved handles pointing downward. Sunlight passes through the fabric and falls across the pale stone plaza. The yellow pegs stand on broad square bases, with the airborne ring casting a separate oval shadow.
Curving steps open toward a harbor full of small boats. Distant buildings, trees and a few visitors establish the larger waterfront setting without competing with the game. The photograph joins an ordinary throwing motion to an exuberant civic space, using repeated circles, clear color and a wide foreground to hold the moment before the ring lands.
