A chestnut market moment unfolds beneath the elaborate ironwork of a covered arcade. A red-haired woman holds a paper cone while the man beside her carefully cools a chestnut near his lips. Her embroidered charcoal jacket and rust trousers contrast with his dark green coat and pale textured sweater.

A polished copper cart sends steam into the cool evening air. Baskets and sacks of chestnuts sit below its counter, while a striped awning shelters the cooking surface. Lamps illuminate the stone columns and wet paving, with a grand building visible across the square behind the two friends.
