Dad shares the last doughnut beneath the apples
Published · Updated
The last doughnut becomes two generous halves at an orchard picnic table. An older father offers one piece to his adult son while keeping the other in his free hand. They smile toward the small exchange, seated close enough for the gesture to feel easy. A plain plate with crumbs, two cream mugs and several red apples complete the table.
The father and son have distinct faces and styles. The older man wears round wire glasses and a thick brown shawl cardigan, with soft ribbing and dark buttons. His son’s loose striped sweater alternates cream, brown and charcoal blue above plum corduroy trousers. Curly hair catches the backlight around the younger man’s face.
An apple orchard surrounds the picnic area. Fruit-laden branches stretch overhead, and the rows continue toward a low building and golden hillside in the distance. Late sunlight brings warmth to the leaves, wooden tabletop and two smiling faces. The broad portrait includes their comfortable seats and grounded table supports, preserving the ordinary scale of the snack. A small act of sharing carries the scene.
