Giant chess occupies a sunny seafront terrace where two older neighbors consider the next move. The woman lifts a cream chess knight just above the tiled board while her companion watches with a smile. Her teal cardigan and red tartan skirt bring strong color to the pale stone setting. His plain ochre jacket echoes the dry grasses beside the low sea wall.

Large black and cream pieces stand well apart across the alternating squares, leaving space for the players to walk between them. Broad circular bases and smooth molded surfaces make the pieces look manageable despite their size. Beyond the terrace, small white sails punctuate the blue sea. The bench, breeze-tossed hair and easy expressions give the game an unhurried neighborhood feel.
