Two goats at the gate focus on a broad cabbage leaf offered by a smiling visitor. Her brown and ivory gingham blouse has a smocked front and generous puff sleeves, paired with a flowing plum skirt and brown lace-up boots. From above, the leaf creates a bright green meeting point between her hands and the nearest goat's raised muzzle.

A wheelbarrow of cabbages, a small crate of carrots and a hen by the stone doorway give the farmyard a busy harvest setting. Sunlight catches the fine white coats, curled hair and the leaf's ruffled edges. The wooden gate keeps the two sides of the encounter clear, while scattered straw softens the ground beneath the animals.
