Horseshoe crabs gather at the evening tide
Published · Updated
Horseshoe crabs gather at the evening tide beneath a blue and apricot sky. Their broad domed shells catch small warm reflections, with smaller rear sections and long tail spines extending over the wet sand. Five nearer animals remain clearly visible as more shells recede along the shoreline.
Thin foam washes around their rounded fronts and curls through the gaps between them. Shallow waves approach from the open sea, leaving fine ripples and curved tracks across the dark beach. The low oblique view follows the gathering into the distance without turning the animals into a dense indistinct mass. Soft twilight preserves the shell textures while the narrow orange horizon adds warmth to the cool water.
