The Lantern Ferry to the Festival Island
Published · Updated
A weathered wooden ferry crosses the lake toward a small island dressed for an autumn lantern festival. Six passengers stand along its open rear deck, looking toward the gathering beneath the trees. A warm lamp inside the little wheelhouse picks out the worn paint, dark timber and simple rails. Behind the boat, a rippling wake spreads through the slate-blue water and breaks the reflections into small golden fragments.
Orange and cream lanterns hang between the island's branches above a timber pavilion. Their light falls across nearby leaves and the people gathered under the roof, while the taller trees remain dark against a clouded evening sky. Two small boats wait beside the rocky shore, each carrying a single warm lamp. A thin band of mist softens the distant wooded hills. Rough rocks in the foreground and the uneven lake surface give this quiet journey a natural autumn character.
