Jade-vine flowers hang above the pond steps

Published · Updated

Jade vine racemes hang in long uneven curtains above the pond steps, their turquoise flowers curling away from dark central stalks. The nearest cluster is large enough to show the individual claw-like forms and small connecting stems. More blossoms recede into the leafy roof of the water court, accompanied by loose tendrils and broad leaves. Heavy timber supports remain visible through the growth.

Weathered pale steps run beside the deep green pond, some edges softened by moisture and darkened joints. The water carries broken reflections of the flowers, leaves and tall stone opening at the far end. Ripples stretch those colors into narrow wavering bands while the nearest submerged step remains visible beneath the surface. A large mottled planter sits among the foliage on the left.

Rain falls outside the open doorway, bright against the garden beyond, while the covered court stays softly lit. The warm stone gives the unusual flower color a quiet backdrop, and the pond deepens the space below it. This low oblique view connects intimate botanical detail with the height and shelter of an abundant water garden.
