Lace Cut through a Fragile Eggshell
Published · Updated
A hollow white eggshell stands upright on a small dark wooden ring. Its surface has been cut into a delicate network of curling stems, pointed leaves and tiny round openings. Thin bridges of shell connect the pattern around the full oval, allowing the dim interior and opposite side to remain visible. Minute irregularities along the cut edges give the work a fragile, handmade character.
Warm window light falls across the shell from the left. The raised leaf shapes catch soft highlights, while the openings cast a lace pattern onto the linen below. The shell retains a chalky texture rather than a glossy finish, contrasting with the darker smooth wood of its simple support.
The close view includes the complete object from the narrow tip to the base. A quiet room recedes behind it, leaving the carved detail and its shadow as the focus. The familiar shape becomes unexpectedly intricate without losing its simplicity. This photograph is free to use, including commercially.
