Paper Chain Swags in the Winter Assembly Room
Published · Updated
Long paper chains sweep across the high ceiling of a pale blue assembly room. Ivory, rose, sage and deep red loops link together in generous swags, gathering at simple metal rings before descending towards the walls. Their open shapes leave the barrel vault visible between the hanging lines. Small bends in the paper and the alternating direction of each loop keep the simple handmade construction easy to see.
Tall windows along one side look onto a snowy garden. Cool daylight falls across the dark parquet floor, meeting the warm light of candle sconces fixed to the panelled walls. At the far end, a carved timber console holds candles and a low evergreen arrangement beneath a narrow mirror. A few planted urns repeat the winter greenery beside the windows.
The photograph shows how a familiar paper craft can fill a large room through rhythm and repetition. Its muted colours, clear floor and restrained seasonal details create an elegant setting for a winter wallpaper or festive decorating feature.
