Parlour Train Checks a Pumpkin Ticket
Published · Updated
A parlour train has room for one unusual passenger. A young boy holds a pumpkin on his lap with its own orange ticket, smiling toward his father across the aisle. His older brother stands between them and carefully operates a small brass punch. Dad presents another ticket and watches with an amused expression, taking his part in the pretend journey.
The open-sided carriage follows the room on a diagonal. Green panels, polished wooden rails and patterned seats give it the character of an old compartment. Brass luggage racks hold small cases above the benches, while warm lamps hang beside the openings. The family fits comfortably inside the grounded construction, with their clothes adding checks, knit texture and a blue patterned overshirt.
Tall iron-framed windows rise behind the train, revealing copper trees outside. Ferns climb around the glass and fill pots beside the parquet floor. Orange pumpkin cutouts and autumn leaves run along the upper frames and the carriage roof. An ochre armchair, old trunks and a carved sideboard remain part of the larger furnished room, turning the game into an ambitious homemade autumn escape.
