Patchwork Bed Race Along the Village Street
Published · Updated
A patchwork bed race carries a laughing passenger along a wet village street. Two friends in patterned pajamas push from the rear rail, while she holds the front of the iron frame above a thick quilt. Plain dark helmets, striped sleeves and small moon patterns make the ordinary bedtime clothing part of the shared joke.
The bed rolls on four broad wheels, with a little spray rising from the damp road. Mustard, blue and cream patches cover the mattress, and the frame remains clearly visible around them. Bunting crosses above pale stone houses as spectators watch from behind a low wall. The low view gives this village street game both speed and room to unfold.
