Pumpkin Tower Gets a Last-Second Rescue

Published · Updated

A pumpkin tower gets a last-second rescue during the neighborhood stacking contest. The older boy steadies the smallest orange fruit while his younger brother braces the broad green pumpkin below. Their sister kneels beside the wooden base and slides a triangular wedge into the gap beneath its edge. Her glance toward the older boy turns a practical adjustment into a small shared triumph.

The three pumpkins decrease in size from bottom to top, with a pale cream layer between the green and orange. Their ribbed skins contrast with the rough square plinth and the smoother wedge. A plain blue T-shirt, narrow stripes and an embroidered white blouse keep the children distinct. Their hands have separate jobs, and their close arrangement follows the shape of the structure they are helping to steady.

The autumn street continues through tall timber gateways filled with individual pumpkins. Smaller bucket arches cross farther along the brick lane, where neighbors work beside tables and hay bales. Cornstalks, flowers and orange trees fill the surrounding space. Soft daylight holds the children and the busy community setting together.
