The House Clad in Reclaimed Doors

Published · Updated

A tall narrow house faces a quiet paved square, its facade assembled from old wooden doors and shutters. Faded green, ochre, cream, charcoal and dusty red panels fit together in a varied patchwork. Some retain raised mouldings, while others carry horizontal slats or simple recessed rectangles. Peeling paint exposes the grain beneath and gives each piece a distinct history.

Actual windows interrupt the screen at several levels. Dark frames, small iron railings and a few plants show the depth behind the reclaimed surfaces. A broad wooden entrance remains clearly defined at ground level. The different panel sizes create an irregular rhythm, yet their close arrangement makes the whole facade feel considered and stable.

A mature plane tree stands to the left, its branches reaching across the upper corner of the building. Afternoon sunlight grazes the wood and reveals the raised edges of the mouldings. Leaf shadows fall across the pale stone paving. The photograph presents the complete elevation, allowing the small details of salvaged joinery to build into a striking architectural surface.
