A sack race brings three laughing children across the school orchard, each gripping a separate hessian bag. Their staggered positions and small hops give the game a lively rhythm. Red, yellow and blue clothing stands out against the rough brown sacks and green grass. Loose hair and the shifting folds of the fabric make the movement easy to follow.

Apple trees spread over the field, with yellow leaves scattered beneath their branches. Picnic blankets and a wicker basket wait beyond the racers, while a low stone wall separates the orchard from the building behind. Cool sunlight catches the children’s faces and casts soft shadows across the lawn. The autumn picnic remains simple, with the friendly race supplying the excitement.
