Sand Bottle Layers at the Round Window
Published · Updated
Sand bottle layers grow at a wooden table beside a round window. One friend pours a fine stream of colored sand into a small metal funnel while the other points toward a sloping band inside the glass. Their smiles stay with the same small discovery, turning a careful craft into an easy shared afternoon.
Bowls of coral, yellow, lavender and turquoise sand sit within reach. A few grains have spilled onto the pale cloth near the front of the table, and the bottle’s transparent sides reveal the uneven boundaries between colors. The funnel rests neatly in the narrow neck, giving the moving stream a clear route into the growing arrangement.
Floral embroidery marks the faded blue blouse on one woman, while blue and pink checks cover her friend’s puff-sleeve dress. Cream shelves behind them hold jars, ceramic bowls and small coastal pictures. Through the large circular window, a sailboat rests on blue water beside a wooded shore. The room gives the delicate hand movement plenty of light and a calm, spacious setting.
