Scoop Wheel Garden Carries a Silver Cascade
Published · Updated
A scoop wheel garden gives a father and his daughters a shared water play discovery. He stands close behind the older girl as they turn the broad rim together. Her younger sister crouches beside the basin and points toward the arriving stream, laughing as it spills over the stone edge. All three are caught up in the same little cascade.
Polished metal scoops circle the wheel on separate spokes. Dark supports, bronze fittings and stepped channels make the garden’s construction visible around the family. Water travels through small openings before dropping into a round basin lined with cobalt tiles. More wheels climb the terraces behind them, where other families follow the channels through the planting.
The sisters’ gingham dresses bring yellow and warm red checks into the green garden. Small flowers decorate one skirt, while ruffled straps and tiers soften the other. Sunlight picks out their hair, the wet metal and the textured stone without losing the shade beneath the trees. Large leaf-shaped screens rise above the terraces, extending the sense of playful scale from the little water experiment to the whole setting.
