Small Stone Arches over the Rapids

Published · Updated

Three small arches of rounded stones stand above a shallow woodland stream. Each curve is made from a handful of separate pebbles, with dark grey, warm brown and pale speckled surfaces pressed together. The arches rest on broad wet boulders, close enough to the rushing water for their polished surfaces to catch its reflected light. A pair of stacked stones sits farther back on a larger rock.

Water slips through the gaps below the arches and drops into a clear foreground pool. Behind them, a wider rock shelf creates a short cascade. The falling ribbons soften slightly with movement, while the pebble edges and mineral patterns remain crisp. Small eddies, submerged stones and scattered leaves make the stream feel close and tangible.

Moss, ferns and golden leaves cover the surrounding banks. The low viewpoint keeps the stone structures at a modest scale within the wider woodland, making their careful arrangement the quiet centre of the scene. This photograph is free to use, including commercially.
