Starling Murmuration over a Marsh at Dusk
Published · Updated
A starling murmuration sweeps across the dusk sky above a quiet reed marsh. Thousands of small dark birds gather into a long curving band, then fold into a looser shape beneath it. Dense patches alternate with fine scattered edges, leaving the violet and orange sky visible through the flock. The broad arc stretches nearly across the view, while individual birds remain distinct around its outer rim. Below, a lone figure stands at the end of a short wooden pier, seen from behind and facing the movement overhead.
Still water reflects the warm horizon and the dark pattern of the flock. The pier's upright posts make thin vertical marks in the reflection, close to the observer's small silhouette. Reeds fill the left edge and foreground, their dry stems and feathery tips standing against the brighter surface. A low line of trees separates the marsh from the glowing sky, where thin clouds deepen from orange to muted purple. The low viewpoint keeps the water close and lets the birds occupy most of the open space. With no artificial lights or nearby activity, the scene holds attention on the changing shape above the solitary watcher.
