Tall yarn shelves progress from lilac and red to cream and green around an oak table in a riverside timber loft.

The Colour-Stacked Wool Loft

Published · Updated

Tall shelves of wool create a rich progression of colour along the wall of this riverside loft. Lilac skeins lead into burgundy, rust and warm orange, followed by honey yellow, cream and deep green. Each open cubby holds soft bundles whose loops and fibres give the display depth. A wooden ladder rests against the brass rail, reaching the stock beneath the roof beams.

At the centre of the room, woven baskets stand on a broad oak table. A striped wool blanket drapes across one corner, gathering the shelving colours into a smaller, looser pattern. Two bentwood stools provide places to sit, and the worn floorboards keep the arrangement practical and welcoming.

Arched windows at the far end reveal a calm river, autumn trees and red brick buildings beyond. Simple pendant lights warm the dark roof timbers while daylight falls gently across the yarn and table. The unoccupied room makes an inviting study of natural fibre, orderly storage and colour. It is free to reuse for personal and commercial projects.
