A white iron-and-glass conservatory with a tall central dome stands behind curved beds of red, orange and yellow flowers.

The Crystal Garden Palace

Published · Updated

A tall glass dome rises above the sweeping glazed wings of a grand conservatory. Fine white iron ribs divide the transparent surface into a dense pattern, while decorative metalwork gathers around the entrance and roof edges. Palms and other foliage are visible behind the panes. The building catches both the warmth of the low sun and the cooler colors of the lightly clouded sky.

In front, curved flower beds wrap around a smooth green lawn. Crimson dahlias, orange blooms and golden chrysanthemums form broad bands of color, with darker foliage and soil separating the groups. The curves lead the eye toward the entrance, connecting the planting to the shape of the architecture. Autumn branches frame the upper corner, and a few fallen leaves rest beside the slate edging.
