The Garden of Intersecting Bamboo Vaults
Published · Updated
Tall bamboo vaults overlap above a stone garden terrace, their open curves rising to different heights against the evening sky. Narrow strips follow each arch and meet finer crosspieces, making a transparent mesh through which the distant trees remain visible. The largest vault rises behind the smaller ones, while the spaces between their grounded feet create several ways into the empty central area. Warm lights at the bases reveal the bamboo joints and bring out its natural golden color.
Shallow stone steps connect the terrace to a broad garden path. Rain has left small reflections on the uneven paving, and fallen maple leaves rest in the joints. Red foliage frames the upper edge of the scene, with low grasses and rough rocks around the approach. Behind the pavilion, dark wooded hills meet a clear blue dusk. The complete structure remains easy to follow, from its anchored lower bundles to the highest curved strip, giving the garden a striking silhouette without closing it off from the surrounding landscape.
