The Spiral Grass Hill and Standing Stones
Published · Updated
A broad path spirals around a tall green hill, climbing in smooth turns toward a small level summit. The clipped turf creates a clean continuous surface between the pale bands of the route, turning the mound into a large piece of landscape sculpture. Warm side light catches the upper edges and leaves the lower slopes softly shaded. Copper and gold trees stand behind the hill, making its simple outline especially clear against the blue sky.
Across the foreground lawn, a line of rough standing stones leads diagonally toward the base of the mound. Each stone has a different height and outline, with irregular mineral surfaces and long shadows extending across the grass. Fallen leaves collect near the nearest stones and along a low mossy edge beside the viewpoint. The garden is empty, so the full relationship between the ascending spiral and the approaching stone line remains visible. The scene combines careful shaping of the land with the unpolished textures of rock, grass and autumn leaves.
