The Theatre beneath Copper Beech Boughs
Published · Updated
Copper beech leaves spread across the ceiling of a small theatre, carried on branching timber forms that rise beside the stage and galleries. The broad stage curtain is deep green, matching the soft cushions on rows of curved wooden seats. Pale walls and fern-painted balcony fronts bring lighter areas between the bark-textured piers, while a softly painted sky remains visible through gaps in the overhead branches.
The view begins among the seats, with worn chestnut backs leading toward the rounded stage. At one side, a narrow stair reaches the gallery, making the room's different levels easy to follow. Daylight enters high on the right and catches scattered leaves before falling across the stage boards. Small wall lamps provide separate pools of warmth beneath the balconies, leaving the foreground and curtain in deeper shade. This original imagined theatre uses woodland decoration as part of the entire room, from its supports to the overhead canopy. It is a quiet view before the seats fill and the curtain opens.
