Tunnel book forest opens between father and son
Published · Updated
A tunnel book forest opens across an oak chest between a father and son. Pale accordion paper connects a long sequence of painted woodland layers. Each layer frames another, leading the eye toward a tiny fox in the distance. The boy holds the front corners while his father steadies the far end, and their smiles meet above the expanding object.
The navy library surrounds the pair with books, patterned cushions and trailing plants. A tall window brings golden autumn foliage into the background. Its woven blind filters the upper light, leaving the faces and paper gently illuminated. The father’s textured waistcoat and the boy’s argyle knit add different small patterns without distracting from the forest.
The old chest gives the delicate paper structure a broad solid base. Worn corners, dark grain and a metal latch make its weight visible, while the cream folds remain crisp and light. Both figures sit comfortably on the window bench with their feet below. The close relationship between their hands, the folds and the layered woodland reveals how the little scene becomes deeper as it opens.
