A Cyr wheel turns beneath the warehouse arch
Published · Updated
A Cyr wheel turns across the warehouse court beneath a broad brick arch. The performer braces her feet along the lower inside of the metal ring and holds its upper edge with both hands. Her body follows the wheel's diagonal line, while her face turns toward the direction of the movement. A friend watches from a bench beyond the performance area with an easy, attentive smile.
The turquoise court creates a clear space around the complete circle of the wheel. A small shadow marks its contact with the floor, and soft reflections trace the brushed metal rim. Behind it, warm brickwork rises through several arches and tall factory windows. The old building gives the performance a strong architectural setting without crowding the movement.
A dark blue practice dress and leggings follow the performer's changing posture. Warm afternoon light reaches her face and sleeves before continuing over the surrounding masonry. The seated friend's pale top brings a quieter highlight to the left of the frame. The photograph brings together two scales: the controlled turn of one person inside a ring and the much larger curve of the warehouse arch overhead.
