Watermelon crowns bring laughter to the garden
Published · Updated
Watermelon crowns turn a simple snack into a private joke between a grandmother and her grandson. Small green rind domes sit above their foreheads as they grin at one another, each holding a bright red slice. Cherries embroidered on her white shirt and yellow sailboats on his blue one add more playful shapes to the scene.
An orange-striped parasol shades the wooden table, where cut rind, a chopping board and an enamel bowl record the afternoon's improvised feast. Behind them, sunflowers, tomatoes and a small greenhouse catch the warm light. The photograph keeps the shared look at its center, with juice, striped rind and worn wood lending the moment an unmistakably summery texture.
