Wild Wreath in the Stone Potting Room
Published · Updated
An immense wreath of dried grasses, seedheads and copper leaves fills the wall above this stone fireplace. Its loose circular shape has an open centre and a lively fringe of branching stems, bringing the textures of an autumn meadow indoors. Pale feathery grasses catch the window light, while russet leaves and darker seedheads give the arrangement depth. Beneath it, simple ceramic vases rest on the mantel and a small fire warms the deep hearth.
The room is framed by tall leaded windows, rough limestone walls and exposed timber roof beams. Branches and berries lie across a broad wooden table, with baskets of gathered stems tucked underneath and a worn stool beside it. Rain darkens the garden outside, balancing the firelight with cool daylight. A resting dog lies quietly near the hearth. Slate floor tiles carry soft reflections through the open space where the completed wreath can be seen clearly. The photograph offers a richly textured autumn interior, combining a dramatic seasonal display with the useful, familiar objects of a country potting room.
