Stitching a woven leather bag by hand
Published · Updated
A woven leather bag lies across the work surface as careful hands finish a line of cream stitching. The upper panel combines thick coral and pale lime fibres, framed by smooth chestnut leather. Small punched holes mark the next part of the seam, while the needle and loose thread draw attention to the slow, precise work at the corner.
An awl, coiled shoulder strap, brass fittings and small offcuts surround the bag without hiding its construction. Warm side light reveals the difference between the raised weave, fine leather grain and porous cork below. The close overhead view keeps the hands and materials central, offering a detailed look at the moment when separate pieces become a useful finished object.
