A bowerbird arranges its blue collection
Published · Updated
A bowerbird stands beside a carefully arranged blue collection at the entrance to a narrow twig passage. Its glossy dark feathers catch teal highlights around a bright violet-blue eye. A plain blue cap held in the stout bill connects the bird’s small action with the scattered objects beneath it.
Caps, short straw pieces, petals and pebbles sit among dry grass and leaves around the bower. Thin upright twigs curve inward on both sides, leaving a clear avenue through the middle. Ferns and rough roots frame the woodland floor as dappled light picks out the blue accents, giving the decorated animal space an intimate and surprising character.
