A corn husk dress rustles by the granary

Published · Updated

A corn husk dress turns dried plant material into a striking layered skirt. Pale strips overlap in broad tiers beneath a narrow waist, while a wide collar and small husk bow frame the wearer’s face. She turns slightly in the granary doorway, letting the outer edge of the dress lift enough to reveal the separate pieces and their fine lengthwise fibers.

Brown boots and loose blond hair soften the sculptural outfit. Behind her, timber walls curve around the old grain store, with a high round opening and a chute giving the space its particular shape. Warm light enters from the doorway and catches the thin edges of the husks. The photograph connects an unusual handmade garment with the simple agricultural material that inspired it.
