A faceting machine finds the green spark
Published · Updated
A faceting machine holds a small green stone at the surface of a wet lap. A brass mast supports the adjustable quill, allowing the maker to guide the contact through its handle. His protective glasses catch a little window light as he concentrates on the small point where mineral meets the circular surface.
A drip bottle, spare discs and trays of rough stones fill the surrounding workbench. Beyond them, rain softens the blue view through the window. The diagonal composition gives equal attention to the operator and the working machine, showing how careful control shapes a tiny object. Wet metal, cloudy mineral edges and a restrained green sparkle bring texture to this quiet workshop photograph.
