A frozen waterfall fills the canyon
Published · Updated
A frozen waterfall forms a tall white column within a deep basalt canyon. Water continues to run through the ice toward a dark blue basin, with delicate icicles spreading across the ledges nearby. Snow picks out the layered cliffs and contrasts with patches of ochre moss along the riverbanks.
The elevated view follows the stream from the lower canyon toward the falls, showing the height of the surrounding walls. Pale light catches the mist and upper ice while the nearer rocks remain dark. With no buildings or people in view, the landscape gives the first hard frost of autumn a dramatic sense of scale and stillness.
