A lemur crosses the fallen baobab branch

Published · Updated

A fallen baobab provides a broad crossing for the lemur. One forepaw reaches toward the next ridge of bark while the other paws support its body on the rounded branch. Its ringed tail rises in a loose curve above the back. The low view keeps the animal’s dark muzzle, pale cheek fur and watchful eye clearly visible.

Rough bark breaks into irregular plates across the branch. A short shaded hollow opens underneath, bordered by red earth, stones and dry grasses. The crossing feels substantial rather than precarious: the timber fills much of the foreground and rests close to the surrounding ground. The animal’s shadow follows the same surface beneath its feet.

Massive baobab trunks rise behind the lemur into a clear blue sky. Sparse crowns spread into branching silhouettes, with smaller shrubs gathered around their bases. Warm morning light gives the dry woodland an ochre cast while leaving pale fur and black tail bands distinct. The scene joins a small purposeful movement with the much slower presence of the old trees.
