A pangolin follows the red earth trail

Published · Updated

A pangolin follows the red earth trail beside a fallen log. Broad overlapping scales cover its curved back, continuing in smaller rows along the long tapering tail. The small bare face and pointed snout contrast with the heavier textures over the body.

Short legs carry the animal close to the ground as one front foot moves into the next step. Copper leaves and sparse green grass lie beside the route, with rough bark forming a darker boundary behind it. Soft woodland light catches the raised edges of the bronze-tan scales, keeping the whole moving animal visible within an ordinary patch of earth, leaves and fallen timber.
