A paper parachute drifts down the stairwell
Published · Updated
A small paper parachute drifts through the open stairwell while two brothers follow its descent. The older brother stands behind the upper railing with one hand just withdrawn. Below, the younger boy waits with his palms open and his face lifted toward the toy. Their different positions give the falling figure a clear route through the tall room.
The white canopy has delicate folds, with thin lines joining it to a tiny yellow figure. Paper bats sweep up the pale wall beside it. A crescent moon and a seated cat form dark shapes against the high window, while black garlands and small amber lights trace the staircase. These decorations make the familiar space feel ready for an evening of experiments and surprises.
The boy’s broad striped shirt brings burgundy and cream into the foreground. His brother’s patterned cardigan echoes the darker rail and garland. A long rug, polished floorboards and glowing lamps carry the eye toward the doorway below. Warm window light keeps both faces clear and makes this brief shared anticipation feel close and ordinary within the elaborate setting.
