A Perfect Ice Disc in the Woodland Bend
Published · Updated
One great circle of ice occupies a quiet bend in the winter river. A narrow band of dark water separates its clean edge from the irregular frozen margins along the shore. White frost traces the rim and forms scattered patches across the blue-grey surface, while faint curved lines give the broad sheet a delicate internal pattern.
The river continues behind it through bare trees and snow-dusted rocks. Fine branches stretch over the water, carrying a light coating of frost, and a few copper leaves remain close to the bank. Reflections soften the dark channel beyond the disc, where the woodland opens towards a distant bend.
Low morning sunlight reaches the upper trees in warm gold, leaving the foreground cool and shaded. Moss, thin snow and curled leaves cover the near rocks, providing a rough natural frame for the unusually regular circle. The contrast between that shape and the surrounding woodland makes a striking portrait composition. The photograph is free to reuse for personal and commercial projects.
