Pancake ice turns through the river bend
Published · Updated
Pancake ice turns through the river bend in separate pale discs. Thick white rims rise above rough granular centers, with narrow dark channels keeping the individual pieces distinct. The nearest discs appear larger and less regular, while the farther cluster gathers into a loose pattern around the curve.
Light snow lies along the banks between tawny sedges, and bare trees mark the distant course of the river. Cold sky reflections cross the open water, with a thin haze farther along the bend. The low bank viewpoint keeps the floating surfaces close enough to show their texture while preserving the broader sweep of the early winter landscape.
