A pied hornbill reaches for the yellow figs

Published · Updated

A pied hornbill reaches for yellow figs in a sunlit canopy. Its pale curved bill holds a single fruit at the end of a thin twig. A dark casque rises above the bill, while a clear brown eye looks toward the cluster. White cheek markings break the sweep of black feathers around the head and neck.

Two scaled feet curl over a thick branch mottled with lichen. The folded wing carries rows of dark feathers with subtle blue highlights. Below the white belly, the long tail drops almost vertically through the space beneath the perch. Broad pale feather panels create a strong pattern against its dark edges and tip.

Fruit clusters surround the bird at several distances. Green leaves overlap the sky, some catching direct light and others falling into shadow. The branch angles across the frame and divides the close canopy from the softer landscape beyond. Blue-green forested hills recede beneath a few pale clouds. The tall composition keeps the entire bird visible while preserving the broad, airy setting around its small feeding action.
