A Pumpkin Giant Watches over the Rooftops
Published · Updated
A boy stands at the parapet of a roof terrace, looking across a sleeping town toward an extraordinary visitor. A huge figure in a dark coat and tall hat leans over the distant roofs. Its carved pumpkin head glows orange, with a broad, friendly grin. One gloved hand rests against a high slate roof, making its enormous size clear beside the stone tower.
The town stretches between the child and the giant in layers of chimneys, steep roofs and narrow streets. Warm windows dot the buildings while pale smoke drifts upward into the night. Above them, a bright moon shines through broken cloud. The giant remains far beyond the nearest houses, holding a consistent scale across the scene.
In the foreground, the boy wears striped pyjamas and a thick dark dressing gown. His empty hands rest on the old stone parapet, surrounded by quiet terrace furniture and dark plants. This photograph is free to use, including for commercial projects.
