A Romanesco island floats in the garden pool
Published · Updated
A Romanesco island floats in the center of a dark garden pool. Individual heads rise from damp soil on a circular raft, their chartreuse florets repeating in intricate pointed spirals. Large blue-green leaves overlap around them, adding broad folds beside the tightly packed vegetable forms. The plants vary in size, allowing the arrangement to feel cultivated and alive rather than perfectly uniform.
The raft has a visible timber rim and discreet flotation beneath its edge. A mooring line connects it to the side of the pool, explaining how the planted circle holds its place on the water. Soft reflections repeat the bright heads and dark leaves below, interrupted only by the small changes in the surface near the raft.
Pale ornamental grasses surround the sunken courtyard, with a low curved bench beyond the pool. Morning mist catches a faint golden light above the dark stone edges. The broad quiet setting leaves room to appreciate the vegetables as sculptural living forms. This floating garden combines the familiar textures of a kitchen crop with the measured space of a reflecting pool, creating a calm and surprisingly grand botanical composition.
