A rowboat crosses the flooded ballroom
Published · Updated
A ballroom rowboat carries two friends across a broad surface of indoor water. The woman lifts one hand beside her mouth as if testing the room's echo, smiling toward her companion. He sits opposite with the wooden oars, keeping his attention on her reaction. Their dark life vests and the boat's worn green sides bring ordinary boating details into the remarkable setting.
Stained glass fills the upper end of the room with pale aqua, coral and yellow geometry. Tall blue columns and arched windows repeat along the water's edge. The broad reflective surface doubles these vertical lines, breaking them into small ripples around the moving boat. A raised stone walkway remains dry along the perimeter.
The complete hull sits low in the water, with oar blades extending on either side. Soft daylight enters from the windows and reaches both people, the wood and the surrounding reflections together. The room feels enormous beside the small craft, yet the friends' amused conversation gives the view a close human center. Curved glass patterns, pale stone and dark green timber create a gentle contrast through the vertical composition.
