A volleyball block brings one adult player high above the net while her teammate stays ready beside her. Both wear blue jerseys, navy shorts and white knee pads. The raised hands, bent knees and hanging ball hold the brief moment when the next direction of play is still uncertain.

Tall arched windows admit soft daylight into the brick college gym. Their repeated shapes create a spacious background behind the taut net and the two concentrated players. The wooden floor and plain athletic shoes keep the scene grounded in an ordinary practice session, with the building's height emphasizing the upward reach of the block.
