Autumn Antlers in the Snowbound Diner
Published · Updated
A long row of burgundy stools draws the eye through a warm diner towards an amber jukebox. Pies rest beneath glass domes along the counter, while pumpkin lanterns line the snowy windows. Beyond the glass, a truck loaded with hay waits below a dark mountain slope, its headlights small against the drifting snow. The contrast between the sheltered room and the cold blue landscape gives the scene much of its atmosphere.
At the far end of the counter, a woman in a white dress pauses beside a seated traveller. Above her paper cap rises a delicate pair of branching antlers, carrying the last red leaves of autumn. The unusual silhouette is a small discovery within the larger room. Warm ceiling lights catch the worn seats and the edge of the counter, leaving the lower furniture in deep shadow. The pumpkins add a second line of orange light along the windows, echoing the jukebox in the corner. Everyday diner details and the leaf-covered crown meet in a quiet, improbable October night.
