The Blue and Gold Garden Parlour
Published · Updated
Painted landscapes cover the tall blue panels of a narrow garden parlour. Winding paths, distant hills, flowering branches and small pavilions sit within delicate gilded borders. The scenes continue along both walls, with fine gold leaves curling around each frame and beneath the ceiling. Their softly aged surfaces keep the intricate decoration warm rather than dazzling.
At the far end, a tall arched window looks onto copper-colored autumn trees. Muted blue curtains frame the glass, and a shallow curved settee follows the recess below it. Pale floral upholstery, two small dark tables and a bronze bowl light complete the room. Afternoon sun crosses the left-hand panels before spreading over the patterned stone floor, revealing slight variations in the paint, gilding and paving. The view from the doorway keeps the whole arrangement clear, from the framed miniature gardens to the real garden beyond the window.
